5 out of 5 stars Updated Review - All Better   June 13, 2009

One Star First Review.
I bought this about 7 months ago and didn't use it until it was needed. Per instructions, I reheated with boiling water. Poured the water out, dropped in the tea leaves, and added hot water. It wasn't ten minutes later, that I picked up the bottle and nearly dropped it. IT WAS SO HOT I couldn't even pick it up with a pot holder. If the exterior was this hot, it couldn't possibly be keeping the content hot inside, which as it turns out, it wasn't. The tea was only luke-warm an hour later. I suspect the overseas factory pulled a fast one and cut corners in manufacturing this worthless junk. It was too much money to throw away and too late to return to Amazon.com.

I emailed the Stanley company on their website and received an automated e-response. Weeks went by, nothing. Finally I telephoned their 800 # and got a person who took my complaint, said a new one would be sent, and to throw out the defective one. A lot of thumb twiddling... Nothing came. After a month, I called again. They found my record and said they didn't have any green ones, and if I would like another color, red or black.

Any of you folks still waiting, I recommend calling again and making sure they have your incident documented. Nobody will be contacting you...

UPDATE: After about ten days, I received my new Stanley. I have tested it, and it performs as intended. The exterior is cool and the liquid contained is HOT. My confidence is restored. Thank you, Stanley, for doing the right thing.

Five Stars, Final Review.

5 out of 5 stars Skeptical at first but quality is good.   September 13, 2009

Well, I research a ton before I buy almost anything. I read all these reviews on Amazon and was a little worried about the quality of this thermos because of the 'made in china' thing and what not, but think of it like this... Stanley is an American name and has been around for a long time. Yeah so they make sutff in China now... so does everybody else and I'm not the most excited about it but my little green stanley has been holding up for probably 6 months now (despite many drops on the concrete with dents and scratches)and it still keeps my coffee hot. I (actually my wife) makes coffee at 5:30 a.m. and it is currently 11:58 and I'm drinking my coffee right now and it's still hot enough for me to burn myself. That is with no preheating the thermos and with a lot of creamer in it too. I also did a test when I first bought the thermos. I preheated the thermos for 10 minutes with boiling water and then put boiling water (212 degrees in it at 10:00 p.m. The next morning at 6:00 (8 hours later) I checked the temperature and it was 186 degrees. (or maybe it was a 168 degrees, it's been a while so I forgot) Anyways, the point is, is that this thermos keeps stuff hot, IF it's not defective. If you have time go here to read how they work... http://home.howstuffworks.com/thermos.htm
ANY manufacturer has defective items that make it through manufacturing and if you get one, return it. Stanley has a great warranty. I've never used it so I don't know if it works cuz my product still works like new. If you're feeling heat on the outside of your bottle, then it's broken... get a new one.
Another thing to think about... how many of these does Stanley sell? I would guess A LOT!!! how many reviews are on here? Only a few. So... most people that get a good product don't race to the internet and write a review. If you get a poor product, you ARE likely to race to the internet and cry and complain over how awful your product is. So take THAT into consideration as well. Chances are you will NOT get a defective one.
I'm happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty--Cool Looking   October 10, 2009
Eco Mama's Guide To Living Green
Recently I took this thermos on an outing to a pumpkin farm. I knew it was going to be cold, so I brought along my Stanely Thermos. What a luxury! I got to have piping hot green tea in the middle of the pumpkin patch.

I have the .5qt classic Stanley thermal bottle, which is a lot more than it sounds like. At the pumpkin patch, I shared with a friend, drank plenty myself, and still had some left when I got home--still steaming hot about six hours later. They make bigger ones, but this is the perfect size to slip in a backpack. The thermos is well made and sturdy and looks very cool. Stanley thermoses have a hard core quality that I love, as though they could be run over by a truck and still be fine.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is that the lid, which also doubles as a cup, is lined with plastic. Why not just stainless steel? The rest of the thermos is stainless, however, and it is the nicest one I've seen, so I'm willing to over look it, but I do hope they re-think that part of the design.

I plan to take my thermos Trick or Treating, filled with spicy hot apple cider. This is the kind of thing that will last forever and really comes in handy. It's a great thing to have during Fall and Winter and would also make a great gift. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Keeps coffee hot! Good for hunting   December 1, 2009
Elizabeth Hall (St. Louis, MO)
I bought the 1 quart version of this for my husband initially and he loves that one. Great for long car rides. Keeps coffee hot ALL day. But he wanted a smaller one for hunting and this one filled the bill. Keeps coffee hot and a bit easier to tote around when outside of a car. We use both sizes fairly regularly and both are holding up great!

4 out of 5 stars Stanley does it again!   November 23, 2009

Yes it is nice to roll down the highway with your latte or mocha in the cup holder, but what if you want to drink that half-caf, no whip, fair traded, pumpkin cappachino on the top of that mountain over there, or out in the forest chopping down the family
Christmas tree, or out on one of those three hours cruises with the Professor, the millionaire and the movie star... mmmmmmm? If that's the case then this little version of the Stanley thermos is just what you need. It will keep your tea or coffee hot for many hours, or if you have some of those water flavorings packets, pour one in, add a few full sized ice cubes to the wide mouth opening, fill with water, and by the time you've climbed half way to the top of tht hill, or tended to that nasty blister from the axe, or wondered if the Captain can get you back to port before the storm drives you into that deserted island, you'll have a cold drink ready.

The pour spout seems slow the first time you pour something into the top/cup, but I think it's so you won't splash hot liquid all over your hand. The more I used it, the less it bothered me. We took these on a recent cuise and used them on and off ship. It was nice to pour some into the cup and know the rest was still hot for the next break.

I wondered why there was no handle and then realized this one is meant to be stuffed in a backpack
or satchel. My wife put hers in her purse and I put mine under my camera in my messager bag.
They also fit easily in my motorcycle saddle bags so I can have hot coffee in the morning
and cold water in the afternoon.
